Recently, I decided to give my sunroom a refresh with Treron by Farrow & Ball, a deep, muted green that adds depth and warmth to the space. You can read more about that decision here. This color has proven to be the perfect backdrop for one of my favorite pieces in the room- my antique commode from 1780. With its elegant arbalette shape and rich wood tones, this piece is a true slice of history, and I wanted to style it in a way that highlights its timeless beauty against the newly painted walls.
To complement the commode, I placed two antique floral paintings on it, initially thinking of them as placeholders. One painting features soft pink flowers, while the other showcases bold red poppies. Their colors flow beautifully together, creating a harmonious contrast that feels fresh and inviting. The delicate pinks are soft and soothing, while the vibrant reds add a pop of color that catches the eye. What I love most is how their frames contrast with one another- the simpler, classic frame of the larger painting next to the ornate, gilded frame of the smaller one. This juxtaposition adds visual interest and layers to the overall vignette.
The deep green of the Treron paint brings out the richness of the floral tones, creating a garden-like feel that seems to bloom right out of the walls. I’ve been toying with the idea of adding more floral artwork to further embrace this atmosphere. Imagine a collection of vintage blooms creating a gallery wall… a secret garden coming to life indoors.
To add another layer of elegance, I placed a vintage crystal lamp on the commode. Its cut glass sparkles as it catches the light, adding a touch of sophistication. Next to it, a stack of well loved interior design coffee table books provides height and a bit of character, inviting you to linger and browse their pages over a cup of tea. A pretty candle completes the arrangement, tying everything together in a serene, welcoming scene.
What began as a temporary arrangement has grown into something I truly adore. I might keep this look just as it is, or perhaps I’ll add a few more floral pieces to further capture that garden inspired charm. Either way, this little corner of the sunroom now feels like a blossoming escape, grounded in history and surrounded by beauty.
